Well known Alaskan passes
away
William (Bill) Devine passed away this week. He was director, vice
chairperson and member of the board of directors for 15 years. Bill
was the artist that did so many of the logo's for Dollars for Dogs,
the shirts, caps, sweat shirts and photo's. Bill Devine was also
a veteran of the Korean and Viet Nam wars. In many ways, Bill was
a hero, but was not one to brag about his accomplishments during
these wars. Funeral services are pending, with burial at Fort Richardson
National Cemetery. The Anchorage Police Departments K9 Unit will
serve as pallbearers. Dollars for Dogs has suffered a great loss.
Bill will be missed by the board of Directors and the many people
he worked with over the years. Officiating at the service will be
retired Police Chaplain, Bert McQueen. We will update you as we
know more.
"RICCO"
RETIRES
JULY 25, 2006
Well known Anchorage Police Department K-9 "Ricco" will
retire as of August 1, 2006. His partner & handler, Sgt. Tony
Henry will be serving in Iraq for the next six months starting
August 1, 2006.
"Ricco" has been one of the most popular dogs ever for
the Anchorage Police Departments K9 Unit. "Ricco" loves
to be around people, have children and adults alike pet him and
fawn over him. He is now ten years old, and with Sgt. Henry leaving,
it was thought best that "Ricco" be retired and just
be a "stay at home K-9" with Sgt. Henry's wife, Tara.
"Ricco" is Dollars for Dogs mascot, and will remain
in that position.
"Ricco's" fearlessness as a K9 officer is unmatched,
or at least many feel that way. He remains a constant companion
to Sgt. Henry and his wife. "Ricco" will still, after
six months of resting up, make public appearances and show off
whenever he can.
The board of Directors for Dollars for Dogs congratulates "Ricco"
on his retirement and wishes him the best!
