Meet the K-9 Teams



Officer S. Case
Officer Sean Case
Officer Case was previously an officer with the Los Angelas Police Department. He joined APD several years ago. Sean worked patrol, administrative officer, and S.W.A.T. prior becoming the newest member of the K-9 Unit.










Officer Michael Jensen
& "Veteran"

Officer Michael Jensen & "Veteran"

Officer Jensen started his career with APD August 1995. He was selected to be handler March 2002.




Officer Lonnie Brown,
& "Mocha"

Officer Lonnie Brown and " MOCHA"
Officer Brown began his police career in November 1994 and became a K-9 Agitator in 1997. He was selected to be handler in March 1999. "Mocha" is a black and tan male Belgian Malinois, born in July 1994. They successfully re-certified every year since 1999 until a mouth injury ended Patriot's career in 2003. American Legion Post #28 donated funds and named him.






Officer Jason Whetsell
& "Bosco"

Officer Jason Whetsell & "Bosco"

Officer Whetsell began his career with APD as a patrol officer in 1995. In 1997 he started working with canine unit as an agitator and did so until he became a handler in 2002. Officer Whetsell worked with the SWAT team from 1999 through 2004 and just recently got back onto the team as a tactical canine. His current position with APD is a canine handler and trainer with the canine unit.

"Bosco" is a male black and tan German Shepherd born May 1998 purchased May 2002 from kennel in Indiana , originally bred in Slovakia . Prior police service dog experience in Canada . PSD – I certification October 2002. Originally named “Zip”.




Officer Derek Hsieh & "R.C."
Officer Hsieh has been a patrol officer since 1994 and joined the Canine Unit in 2005. K9 RC, a large Belgian Malinios, was born in Holland and purchased from a kennel in Indiana with a generous grant from Dollars for Dogs. RC is named for his sponsor – the South Anchorage Rotary Club. Officer Hsieh and K9 RC were certified in July of 2006. RC is a single purpose patrol dog and is responsible for building and directed evidence searches as well as suspect tracking and apprehension. While enjoying his patrol work, RC loves to take breaks and meet the public.
